at the Corn Palace June 15, 2010
Inside the Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD, there are wall exhibits of past years' decorations on the outside of the building and the history of the Corn Palace since the first one in 1892. We watched a slide presentation also and then went into the auditorium of the Corn Palace. It is a basketball arena for high school games and also a showcase of more corn decorated murals on the upper walls. As we were driving along I-90, Donna said, "The sky is so big". Without many hills or any higher elevations the sky can be seen to the horizen, which may be twenty miles or more away. When we got close to the Missouri River crossing, there was a long downgrade with a warning for trucks to check brakes. The river is very high this year with recent rains being very heavy, 6 to 8 inches in a few days. By the time we reached the crossing we had mostly blue sky after leaving a heavy overcast in Minnesota. The cattle we saw were in pastures for the most part, with a lot of room to graze the new green grasses. It was about 397 miles today, a long drive but we had some homemade beef vegetable soup that Donna and Kay had prepared on Sunday. Delicious.

Hi Dan- Have you run into any thunderstorms yet? When I was up that way I liked watching them roll across the prairies. Spectacular.
ReplyDeleteUp to last night we have had only threats of thunderstorms. Now that we are in a RV Park just south of Rapid City, SD we got a doozy in the early evening before sundown. I'll put more on the blog.
ReplyDeleteWE heard that SD was expecting tornados. Glad you did nto run into them.
