Rapid City, South Dakota 6-16
When we got to the Happy Holiday RV Park in Rapid City the weather was warm, close to 90 degress and sunny. It was a long day not only from the sightseeing and heat but also we passed into the Mountain Time Zone and turned our clocks back one hour. Maybe that's why we all went to bed by 10 PM.
Before sundown the sky darkened from the southwest and a thunderstorm rolled in. Donna, Kay and Ernie had gone to grocery shop and I checked the weather radar on the laptop. Oh boy, that's headed right for Rapid City. Then the lightning and thunder started and people headed for their campsites. I kept looking out the window at the approching storm clouds and at the radar map. They matched.
When the shoppers got back it was raining steadily and they had been wet since they loaded up at the grocery. After changing into dry clothes and putting away the supplies we watched more lightning as daylight dwindled. An exciting welcome to the Black Hills.
