Mt. Rushmore June 17, 2010
At 10 AM we headed out for some sightseeing in the Black Hills. As we were having our breakfast a big gust of wind came and stirred up dust and shook the trees. The forecast was for high winds, 30 to 40 MPH with higher gusts for the day. That was a accurate prediction, luckily the sun was out and felt warm out of the wind.
Mt. Rushmore was only 16 mikes away so we went there for our first stop. Winding our way up and down and around we gradually had more and more traffic headed the same way.
At the entrance to the memorial we paid a parking fee of $10, which is good for the rest of this year for our car. There is no entry fee otherwise and there are free parking areas a little further away.
As we had gotten closer on the road we could see peeks of the mountain and the faces as we rounded the bends. Now we walked up a wide, sloping paved path under granite arches. All kinds of people were there, different size groups, different languages overheard. Straight ahead the memorial could be seen while passing under the arches.
These photos and most of the others were taken by Donna.
